Merry Hill Shopping Centre, Birmingham

Ted Baker London/ted’s invention Haus will take British made inventions and reinterpret them through his eyes. Britain is famous for over 40% of worldwide innovations & discoveries.

The concept will take inspiration from local inventions to give a unique splash of identity to the props and central area of the store. The overall space will keep an ‘Invention’ aesthetic and take on a creative workshop aesthetic, with exposed sprayed out ceilings, metal framework and suspended rails.

Iron production was once an important local industry. The Round Oak Iron Works, established in 1857 on the site of the New Level Ironworks and at its peak, employed several thousand people.

Initially established by William, 11th Baron Ward (later Early of Dudley), the works became the Earl of Dudley’s Round Oak Iron and Steel Works in 1897. After its closure in 1982, the first phase of the Merry Hill Shopping Centre was completed in April 1986.

The steelworks, built on more than 100 acres of land, was a significant employer in the town for nearly 130 years between 1857 and 1982.Ted Baker will be making a nod to the steelworks by localising the back of the till area, cash desk and humorous props within the store.
